Photoshop Composite Image

This week in class we discussed composite images, using photoshop. Everyone started off with the same photos, a soccer field, soccer player, snowy effects and stadium lights. We used a video tutorial to learn how to combine them all neatly, making it look like one image. We then took our own 3 photos, wether it was from google, or ones we took on our own. I chose to use google photos, so I can get a cleaner composite. This was the soccer player composite I made.

Following the steps was easy, and I messed up on the mask layer for the cutout of the soccer player, but I realized too late. It looks good regardless, but for my next composite I did, I fixed that problem.

These were the layers for the soccer player composite:

The yellow and green lighting was optional in the tutorial, but I decided to add it to finish the look.

Next, was my personal composite, once I learned how to make one.

These were the original photos (unedited)

The steps I took to create the composite were as follows:

I imported the 4 photos on photoshop, and then adjusted all of their resolutions to 300. I then dragged the background, and the brown running dog on top. I used the object selection tool to cut out the brown dog. I then pressed on the create a mask tool, to get rid of the outline. Then I moved the dog into the bottom left. Then, I took the photos of the two dogs playing and did the same thing, cut out, masked, and moved to the top. I then dragged the sparkle, light effect, on to the composite layer, and turned the mode from normal, to screen. I made the opacity lower, to create a faded shining light effect. I then created a new layer, and added gradients in all four corners, depending on the color. I used the color picker tool to get a perfect match to the grass and sky. Then, I was finished with the composite :)

Here is the finished composite:

Here are the layers I used:

In conclusion, this assignment was very fun and informative. It taught me how to make a composite image, and use tools like gradient, object selection, masking layers, camera raw filter, and more. I had some trouble especially with cutting out the figures to paste into the backgrounds. But once I figured out how to do it, it was a lot of fun and I actually enjoyed doing it. I am a quick learner so I figured it out very quickly.
